Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: Satya Nadella Says that “Digital Technology is a Deflationary Force”

Highlights

0:09 – Today’s Cloud Wars Minute is presented by Industry Cloud Battleground Week, a digital event taking place between November 15 and 19 and bringing together six of the most influential industry cloud vendors in the world.

0:30 – On Microsoft’s recent quarterly earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella said something profound about the current state of the economy and technology. He said, “digital technology is a deflationary force in an inflationary economy.”

01:05 – Later in the call, Nadella expanded on that in a few ways. First, he said that the top priority for any business in today’s climate has to be productivity. He used an interesting phrase, as Nadella often does, which was that businesses need to run on the “efficient frontier,” pushing as far out as you can into the realm of efficiency.

01:35 – He also talked, naturally, about some new tools that are especially helpful: digital twins and digital twin simulations being two of them that help to reduce waste.

01:45 – This is an example of something we’re seeing across the cloud industry: an elevation of how leading cloud vendors talk about their value proposition, including connecting them to today’s mega-issues like inflation.

02:55 – Bob says it’s a very healthy move for Microsoft and all tech companies to address big global business problems as major driving forces behind the ongoing surge to the cloud and innovation in industry clouds.
