Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob is reporting from Oracle CloudWorld in Las Vegas. Oracle CloudWorld brings together its customers and partners for the first time in a few years, on the heels of it becoming the fastest-growing major cloud provider in the world. Bob explains why he feels that Oracle is taking the lead in cloud innovation.
Highlights
00:24 – Bob says that Oracle CloudWorld kicked off with keynotes by Safra Catz, Larry Ellison, Oracle customers, and Oracle’s top technology executives.
00:38 – Oracle has the “hot hand here in Las Vegas” for a few different reasons, says Bob. In the company’s last quarter, which ended on August 31, Oracle had a cloud revenue growth rate of 45%. Bob says that Oracle is “pushing very hard into industries,” with its traditional fusion apps getting more industry-specific and with full suites of operating technologies on the industry cloud side. He says this comes at a time when every customer says they want and need more of them.
01:16 – Oracle customers, once cautious about cloud infrastructure, are now ready to “surge into the cloud,” says Bob.
01:29 – Bob says that “the multi-cloud initiatives from Oracle’s technology stack” are coming into play. He says Oracle has disclosed that it wishes to be open and make other clouds, like Microsoft and Azure, available on its cloud. He says Oracle feels that it needs to be where its customers are and give them options.

02:04 – Steve Miranda, Oracle’s Executive VP, is “proud of the pace of innovation that Oracle is infusing into its applications,” says Bob. He says the pace of innovation that Oracle is driving into its applications every quarter is unmatched by any other major cloud application players.
02:37 – Bob says that these are the reasons he feels Oracle has the “hot hand here as Oracle CloudWorld opens up.” He says he feels that the company feels “totally comfortable about end-to-end” and is talking more about business outcomes and customer value, rather than the “straight technical details.”
