00:10 — Today’s report details research findings from Couchbase regarding digital transformation — what’s working and what’s not working.
02:04 — Surprising finding: 81% of enterprises had digital transformation efforts fail, suffer delays, or be scaled back in the past year, at an average cost of more than $4 million.
02:35 — 82% of companies were prevented from pursuing digital transformation. The key factors of this include a lack of skills to deliver (cited by 24%) or the complexity of implementing technologies (23%), which is also a skills issue.
02:52 — What happens when a project fails? Respondents said they have lost valuable staff to more innovative competitors. 41% said that’s happened with IT staff and 40% say it has happened with other staff.
03:10 — The news is not all bad. Enterprises plan to increase their investment in digital transformation by 46% over the next 12 months, showing that they still see the value.
03:24 — In 2019, almost 30% of survey respondents listed “enhancing customer experience” as a top investment priority. In 2021, the percentage has gone down to the low 20s. That is not a good sign.
