Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder, Bob Evans. The next three minutes are packed with insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud! Today’s Topic: Co-Creation and Industry Clouds Are the Next Big Thing in Cloud
Highlights
0:41 – What will be the next big thing in cloud? Bob says that it’s going to be a combination of the co-creation of a new generation of solutions around and with industry clouds. These new apps, products and other solutions will be unlike any that we’ve seen in the past, as they are the result of collaboration between tech vendors and their customers.
01:23 – Bob runs through a few examples of where this trend is already happening with some of the world’s leading cloud vendors. First: SAP has been working with a consortium of automobile manufacturers in Europe to integrate data more intelligently into their entire supply and stakeholder chains.
01:44 – On Oracle’s last earnings call, Larry Ellison mentioned that Oracle is working with its banking customers on new industry-specific cloud solutions.
02:06 – Microsoft bought AT&T’s 5G mobile network not long ago, which allows Microsoft to move more deeply into the telecom industry than ever before. Similarly, AWS teamed up with Goldman Sachs to wade into the financial services industry with a new Cloud for Data.
02:44 – Finally, look at what Google has done with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). Part of the two companies’ partnership involved Google investing $1 billion into CME to develop new solutions.
03:31 – New partnerships between cloud vendors and customers are already giving rise to an entirely new generation of cloud products and solutions designed for today’s digital economy.
