Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
Highlights
00:15 — This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
00:38 — Guest host, Wayne Sadin discusses a report from a Trend Micro and Ponemon Institute security survey. The headline read: “Over Three-Quarters of Global Organizations Think They’ll Be Breached in 2022.” The article shares that there is an “elevated risk” of cybersecurity incidents and breaches.
01:08 — In 2021, the same 84% of these organizations suffered one or more breaches and 35% suffered seven or more successful attacks.
01:27 — The risk has since declined, particularly between 2020 and the end of 2021. Not only did the threat go down, but our ability to handle it went up.
01:52 — 36% of respondents were familiar with cybersecurity within their organizations. However, would you want someone that’s only somewhat familiar with your cybersecurity to respond with how risky things are at your company?
02:35 — The survey also did not identify whether respondents were really the deep control to answer questions about cybersecurity—most of the respondents were analysts, consultants, and other roles that probably weren’t even directly involved with cybersecurity. The survey proposed opinion questions that Wayne believes should require a high level of knowledge and hands-on experience to develop an appropriate response.
3:43 — Cloud technology can help with a lot, but not all when it comes to cybersecurity. This survey provides questions that business leaders should review and consider to better understand what’s happening in their organizations.
