In this Cloud Wars Horizon Demo Day moment, excerpted from Acceleration Economy’s Cloud Wars Horizon Demo Day digital event that was held on December 15th, Acceleration Economy CEO and Co-founder John Siefert is joined by Acceleration Ecvonomy analysts Aaron Back, and Chris Hughes. John discusses the concept of security breaches and describes why he does not want to be the organization that faces one.
Highlights
00:11 — John explains why he does not want to be the organization that gets breached. If the personal data of customers and users get breached, the trustworthiness of an organization immediately goes down because of the perception and reality that private data has been exposed.
00:52 — Most people are no strangers to receiving a notice from external organizations that there has been a breach and their personal data has been exposed. John adds that “it’s almost every day” that this happens.
01:14 — As a CEO, John is constantly thinking about how to ensure that this does not happen to Acceleration Economy. Unfortunately, the reality around data breaches “is not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when,” says John. This reiterates the importance of creating a solid security perimeter to mitigate the likeliness of a breach.
01:53 — If a security breach does happen, what can be done? There should be ongoing cultural discussions inside organizations to develop reconciliation strategies in the event of a data breach. What are the steps that need to be taken? When is it time to get in contact with a lawyer? “Those are the things that keep me up at night, as a CEO of an organization, as well as a board member of an organization,” notes John.
