The pace of new and expanded partner announcements continues to accelerate as the race to develop market-leading GenAI initiatives gathers steam. One of the most important relationships is that between software and infrastructure providers.

Since 2021, Kyndryl, the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, and Google Cloud have partnered to support digital transformation efforts for their joint customers. Now, Kyndryl has announced that this partnership has been extended to drive the adoption of GenAI.

With this expanded partnership, Kyndryl will help Google Cloud to increase the pace of deployment of its GenAI capabilities and operationalize its platforms, such as the company’s Gemini large language model, or LLM.

GenAI: From Advice to Adoption

“Given Kyndryl’s data services expertise, along with our more than 30 years of experience managing large enterprise environments, Kyndryl understands the complexities in moving a generative AI solution from an idea into production,” said Nicolas Sekkaki, Kyndryl’s Global Applications, Data and AI Practice Leader.

Kyndryl will focus on four core areas:

  1. Advisory and implementation: Through Kyndryl Consult and other services, the company will help customers find areas where GenAI can support their business strategies and build the right data foundation to fuel these developments. The company will also help customers to onboard and implement Google Cloud’s AI and GenAI services.
  2. Leveraging the Google Cloud Cortex Framework: Kyndryl will leverage the Google Cloud Cortex Framework to advance the strategic value of ERP data on Google Cloud. Customers can expect increased productivity, AI, and data-driven growth opportunities.
  3. GenAI adoption: Kyndryl will make its custom LLM Operations (LLMOps) Framework available to Google Cloud customers. The framework is designed to make it more cost-effective to launch GenAI services responsibly.
  4. Investing in expertise: Kyndryl aims to increase the capacity and scope of AI and analytics for practitioners through the Google Cloud Academy for Kyndryl. The plan is to foster a workforce that’s competent in the core technologies and skills required to benefit from the AI boom. This aligns with Kyndryl’s increased investment in Google Cloud AI technologies such as Duet AI for Developers and Google’s Generative AI Initiative for Service Partners.

Responsible AI Focus

While this announcement represents a natural progression of the partnership between Kyndryl and Google Cloud by increasing efforts to drive GenAI adoption, one particularly interesting and welcome addition is the focus on responsible AI.

Yateendar Bollini, Director of Global Consulting Partnerships, Google Cloud, explained how extending the company’s partnership with Kyndryl will benefit customers looking to utilize GenAI responsibly. “Through our expanded partnership, Kyndryl will provide enterprise customers with the services expertise and generative AI solutions needed to accelerate business transformation with Gemini on top of the security capabilities and trusted infrastructure of Google Cloud,” he said.

Kyndryl’s Sekkaki added, “By combining this unique perspective and the Kyndryl Responsible AI Principles with Google’s AI history and in-house generative AI capabilities, we can quickly and responsibly bring this new generation of AI to customers and drive their business value.”

Highlighting a need for responsible AI development is becoming widespread among the major software vendors developing the most transformative technologies. Emphasizing responsible AI in the context of a partnership expansion demonstrates how important it is to share these responsibilities.

While Google Cloud must ensure the technologies powering GenAI are designed with security, ethics, and responsibility in mind, it must also partner with companies committed to introducing the same levels of vigilance in infrastructure. And that’s precisely what it’s doing with Kyndryl.
