In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob Evans discusses why cloud infrastructure platform Oracle Alloy is a top contender for the Cloud Wars product of the year.
Highlights
00:36 — Although it is only January, Bob believes that cloud infrastructure platform Oracle Alloy is a top contender for the Cloud Wars product of the year.
00:48 — Late last year, Bob had a one-on-one interview with Oracle Executive Vice President of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Engineering, Clay Magouryk. Within that conversation, a few things came up that explain why Oracle Alloy is a breakthrough product.
01:14 — The big point that Magouryk made is that where the cloud is headed and where the world is headed are not where they used to be. Companies cannot simply take old models of the cloud and project them into the future.
01:44 — The basic premise behind Oracle Alloy is that it will allow specific, large customers of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to become cloud providers, too. In this case, Oracle would provide that cloud infrastructure to these customers, who would then combine it with their purpose-built industry-specific applications and solutions.
02:27 — This specific innovation would address issues around data residency, data sovereignty, and data security.
02:44 — On the other side of this innovation, highly regulated industries such as financial services, telecommunications, and the public sector, which have created industry-specific solutions and applications can now, in combination with OCI, create new value for their customers.
03:23 — The big idea behind all of this is to support the notion that the future cloud will be very different than the cloud that currently exists.
03:43 — Magouryk is keen on listening to customers and eager to understand how their businesses are changing. These changes affect future opportunities and shape the way cloud infrastructure needs to change.
04:20 — These reasons are why Bob thinks Oracle Alloy should be considered the product of the year. Later today, the full-length Cloud Wars News article will go into much more detail about Magouryk and his ideas.
