Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, co-host Kieron Allen details an additional major customer win for Oracle with the UK government.
Highlights
00:03 — I recently analyzed the selection of IBM and Oracle to fufill a massive $950 million contract for the UK Government. Expanding on that news, Oracle has announced that the Synergy Programme, the organization behind managing this multi-departmental initiative, has chosen Oracle Cloud to run its shared services platform.
00:25 —The decision will impact upwards of 250,000 civil servants. Here’s what Chris Murtagh, CTO and ERP program director at the Synergy Programme, had to say about the deal: “We are building a common operating model and establishing business processes that we use collectively across four departments that employ nearly half of all civil servants in the UK. Oracle Cloud will create a single platform that will expand insights, increase efficiency, and allow us to better meet the needs of citizens.”
01:15 — While many privately held organizations are matching or even surpassing the capabilities of governmental agencies, when a company like Oracle takes on a governmental contract that impacts so many people, it significantly boosts trust in their services.
