Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I share insights from Jan Gilg, CRO & President, SAP Americas and Global Business Suite and Member of the Extended Board.
Highlights
00:15 — SAP‘s become the fastest-growing major enterprise applications vendor by far, and this week, as SAP Sapphire opens, I spoke with Jan Gilg, its Chief Revenue Officer for the Americas and for SAP Business Suite. We talked about apps, agents, the new Data Cloud and what it’s doing now with modular ERP and more.
01:14 — With S4 now being part of Business Suite, Jan was describing how customers are looking at this. It’s interesting, he said, because SAP used the term Business Suite about 20 years ago to describe their on-premises applications. He said, “We brought the name back because it fully captures what customers are looking for.”

AI Agent & Copilot Summit is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents. Building on its 2025 success, the 2026 event takes place March 17-19 in San Diego. Get more details.
02:01 — Now t the Business Data Cloud SAP introduced a few months ago. This is important, because, he said, customers know that what they have to be able to do is see what’s going on across the whole enterprise, tie that all together, make sure they’re not operating in different functional silos, and certainly not in data silos.
03:16 — Very interesting interview, lots of good thoughts from Jan Gilg, who now as the Chief Revenue Officer for SAP Business Suite and also the Americas, has a chance to hear first-hand a lot of what customers are thinking out on the front lines and what’s most important to them in these days.
