Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob explains the recent deal between Microsoft and Kyndryl that will give business customers complete access to all of their data. He says this will positively impact the digital economy.
This Cloud Wars Minute is sponsored by Celonis, the market leader in process mining and execution management. The world’s top 2,000 process fanatics learned to fix process inefficiencies at Celosphere, the company’s annual conference, which was held November 9th and 10th in Munich, Germany. Highlights
00:28 – Bob says a huge problem that is confronting businesses today is that they know they need to be fully data-driven, but do not have access to all of their data, which is currently siloed, making it impossible for companies to get the end-to-end view.
00:50 – Microsoft made an “interesting move” with Kyndryl, says Bob. Together, the organizations are “busting down some silos and unifying data.
01:22 – Bob says that more vendors are moving in this direction and beginning to connect things. He says a big connection between Microsoft and Kyndryl is to take mainframe data and make it available in the cloud, specifically with Microsoft Power Platform. He says pulling all this mainframe data to a central cloud will allow business customers to be able to act on the data and create applications based off of it.
02:05 – The need to make data accessible in a central location is driven by the need for customers to have complete access to their data, says Bob. He says Microsoft Power Platform will be key in low-code/no-code abilities and AI-enabled Power Platform.
02:33 – Bob says he “cannot overstate the importance and significance of this’ because tech companies are realizing that it is their responsibility to help their customers access all their data. He says this is now the basis for the digital economy to “not just survive, but thrive.”
