In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I review major highlights from Larry Ellison’s keynote at Oracle CloudWorld discussing the future driven by data and AI.
Highlights
00:11 — During his keynote, Larry Ellison talked about his vision for Oracle as well as what’s going on in the world and how those two tie together.
00:32 — When OpenAI created ChatGPT, Ellison said that the people at Oracle were shocked because “the newborn baby talked,” as they weren’t expecting the new technology to have natural language. He said that this is an indication of just how revolutionary the generative AI phenomenon is.
01:36 — Ellison said that we all need to understand that, as remarkable as some of the recent breakthroughs have been, we’re only beginning to scratch the surface of what’s possible. Additionally, he said that it’s changing everything that Oracle is doing.
02:14 — Due to the development that Oracle has been doing with its SuperCluster and its remote data access management networking technology, the company has new capabilities to deal with large language models.
02:42 — Oracle now uses Apex, its no-code development tool, for everything. It will support all new Oracle software projects to be done with smaller teams, enabling the company to redeploy employees to take on new projects.
03:13 — With the arrival of generative AI, Oracle’s ambitions are even bigger, including its initiatives in healthcare. Its system for electronic health records (EHR) will lead to better patient outcomes as well as better financial results for providers and payers.
04:04 — Indoor farming will advance, Ellison emphasized in his keynote; it’s being brought about in part by automation. Humans will be able to work in climate-controlled greenhouses. Ellison suggested that it will provide better job security and better quality of work for these individuals.
04:42 — Ellison discussed the Oracle and Nvidia-powered Tesla police cars being developed for first responders. This opened a remarkable new world and a sign of both Ellison’s outlook and Oracle’s ambition.
