Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
This episode is sponsored by Acceleration Economy’s “Cloud Wars Top 10 Course,” which explains how Bob Evans builds and updates the Cloud Wars Top 10 ranking, as well as how C-suite executives use the list to inform strategic cloud purchase decisions. The course is available today.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I share how Google Cloud is harnessing generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).
Highlights
00:23 — It’s fascinating to see a huge new growth segment in the Cloud Wars area, and that’s a combination of two very powerful trends, GenAI and industry-specific offerings. Google Cloud has started a rollout of GenAI offerings for various industries, the two latest being in healthcare and manufacturing.
01:40 —In manufacturing, Google Cloud offered five potential use cases. First, machine-generated events monitoring and then customer-service automation where there’s a range of things going on in the area of document search and synthesis.
02:18 — Next, on the sales side, product/content catalog discovery. This tool is going to re-energize the sales process. Finally, supply chain advisor, a very broad topic.
02:57 — In healthcare, Google Cloud’s rolled out an industry-specific search, called Vertex AI Search. It’s also working with a customer called Highmark Health, an insurance firm, based on the idea, “What if we could have an absolutely delightful healthcare experience for patients or members of an insurance community?”
04:20 — GenAI’s only been around for 11 months. But I think the marriage of Gen AI capabilities and industry-specific expertise, pursuing industry-specific improvements and performance here, is where there’s going to be an enormous benefit.
04:56 — Industry-specific solutions are going from being sort of a specialized peripheral type of component that only a few companies want to what, I think, everybody’s going to want, and these Gen AI capabilities are going to fit in there very nicely.
