Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I explore how AI is rapidly transforming industries, with Oracle’s Larry Ellison calling it the greatest achievement in human history.
Highlights
00:26 — Recently, Larry Ellison was giving a talk at a big event, and he said that AI is now the greatest achievement in human history. And what’s interesting is, 18 months ago, Ellison posed the question, “Will AI turn out to be the greatest achievement in human history?“
01:15 — Now today, 18 months after posing that question, Ellison clarified it. He said, “There’s no question whatsoever. We’ve gone from the possibility of it to it’s absolutely the case.“ He described what could happen in a couple of areas including healthcare with AI’s ability to help to not only do early detection of serious diseases, particularly cancer, but also then create vaccines.
02:22 —The second was with agriculture. He said, “We’re currently doing satellite imaging,” he said, “from California to Kenya.” And he said on farms, “We’re going to be able to go into a specific farm and say, ‘In this part of the farm, you need more irrigation. Over here, you need more fertilizer.’“ He said, “We can do this for farms. We can do this for states. We can do this for countries.”

AI Agent & Copilot Summit NA is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents for mid-market and enterprise companies. It takes place March 17-19 in San Diego, CA. Register now to attend.
03:15 — The point about this isn’t so much that Larry Ellison said it or somebody said it. It’s the fact that Ellison has been right so many times about the state of technology and what’s going on here.
04:15 — The pace at which businesses are able to incorporate those new technologies to completely transform where they see their business headed, where they see the heart of value that they can offer to customers — is changing incredibly fast. And for businesses that fall behind their competitors early, it’s going to be very difficult to catch up.
