It’s hard to find a better fit for agentic AI than the public sector. With organizations handling data from millions of people, complex processes, and massive social responsibility, the power of automation can be truly transformative.
Yet, the regulatory landscape for public sector organizations differs significantly from that of commercial entities. In the U.S., FedRAMP (Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program) is a compliance initiative that ensures the assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring of cloud products and services used by federal agencies.
This program standardizes the requirements for these agencies to adopt commercial cloud technologies. To work with the most sensitive unclassified data, a cloud service provider must achieve the highest level of accreditation, known as FedRAMP High.
Now, Salesforce has announced FedRAMP High authorization for Agentforce, as well as Data Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and Tableau Next, bringing the transformative power of agentic AI across the U.S. government.

Transforming Government Services
“Public sector organizations have to move at the speed of their missions while maintaining the highest levels of trust and security. Salesforce empowers agencies to do both without compromising,” said Nasi Jasayeri, EVP and GM of Public Sector at Salesforce.
“With compliance and security built right in, government leaders can harness the same cutting-edge innovations driving efficiency and engagement in the private sector — things like 24/7, digital-first support, data insights that help agencies anticipate constituent needs, and AI tools that foster deeper connections with the people they serve.”
In the announcement about the new accreditation, Salesforce cited its own research that concluded that 87% of Americans would use an AI agent for public sector tasks. By using agentic AI, federal agencies can tackle the core challenges that frustrate the efficient delivery of public services, including:
- Inefficient data-driven decision-making because of the challenges of manual (data team-initiated) analysis
- The absence of personalization on a case-by-case basis
- The burden of administrative tasks on government employees
Closing Thoughts
Worldwide, governments are becoming increasingly aligned with leading tech companies within their jurisdictions as it becomes clear that the AI Era will ultimately be this century’s Industrial Revolution. Focusing on the U.S., these burgeoning relationships are becoming increasingly collaborative.
Sometimes, these leaps forward are led by commercial entities in the national interest to support the government’s ambitions whilst upholding the autonomy to dream big. A case in point is Project Stargate, the incredibly ambitious AI infrastructure megaproject led by OpenAI and Oracle (read Bob Evans’ excellent analysis of that endeavor here).
With this latest round of accreditation, Salesforce is taking a different tack. It showcases Agentforce’s built-in security standards and adaptability to public sector use cases, adhering to some of the strictest compliance recommendations in the world. The approach is still collaborative, but instead of saying, “Hey, that’s a great idea, I’ve got an idea for that,” this course sees the boundaries and works within them.
Working within the strict regulations essential for managing a country is often non-negotiable. These two approaches working in parallel are the way forward for AI innovation. It’s incredibly encouraging to witness tech innovators being given the freedom to explore imaginative possibilities wherever possible.
