In episode 112 of the Acceleration Economy Minute, I report on location at Oracle CloudWorld about an interesting keynote led by Juan Loaiza, Oracle executive vice president of mission-critical database technologies.
Highlights
00:18 — Juan Loaiza’s keynote “The Future of Data and App Dev” focused on how the drive for greater productivity informs Oracle’s efforts to redefine data use in app development.
00:49 — “Generate to innovate,” the session began. Oracle’s latest offerings are focused on generating outcomes and leaving hand coding behind. The first initiative was about generating outcomes by declaring user intent.
01:29 — Oracle’s APEX enables low code development in enterprise apps and now it’s being extended to include more use cases such as workflows, mobile and mission-critical software-as-a-service (SaaS). Finally, Oracle has developed a tool called AI Vector Search built into the latest version of Database 23c. Oracle is enabling developers to declare intent using natural language.
02:16 — Now while these artificial intelligence (AI) innovations will simplify the app development process, Loaiza was keen to stress that it will simply provide a blueprint from which experts can refer to during the development process. It’s clear the shift to generating through declared intent and not hand coding has begun.
