Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily cloud news and commentary show. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the cloud.
In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I offer a quick preview of my upcoming full-length interview with SAP’s Michael Ameling, where we dive deep into SAP’s AI, data, and developer-first strategy.
Highlights
00:16 — Recently, I had a chance to have an interesting conversation with SAP executive Michael Ameling, who is the President of their Business Technology Platform. The core of the conversation was about SAP’s evolution — from being an enterprise applications company to one that’s deeply involved with applications, data, and AI.
01:16 — Customers are changing in many ways. They want less integration and more innovation. They want AI to be available wherever and whenever they need it. They want applications, AI, and agents to be seamless. They want to extract data from wherever it lives. They must comply with increasingly complex regulatory frameworks across the globe.

AI Agent & Copilot Summit is an AI-first event to define opportunities, impact, and outcomes with Microsoft Copilot and agents. Building on its 2025 success, the 2026 event takes place March 17-19 in San Diego. Get more details.
02:03 — Michael gets the customer issues. He works with them regularly. He said something big: “We need this to be a consistent foundation that customers — at any level, from the C-suite to developers — can count on as the basis for their innovation.” He highlighted what SAP is doing with its Integration Suite, and how this was a key theme at SAP TechEd.
02:43 — He said that developers won’t be sidelined by the AI Revolution. SAP is collaborating with partners like Databricks, Snowflake, Google Cloud, and others to ensure data is accessible and manageable via the Business Data Cloud. We also talked about the role of Joule, SAP’s AI assistant, and the increasing strength of SAP’s partnerships.
03:38 — I hope you’ll watch the full video with SAP’s Michael Ameling, linked in the show notes and available on Cloud Wars. He brings a unique perspective by combining evolving customer needs, deep technology insights, and SAP’s shifting business and tech strategy, all unified by the Business Technology Platform.
