As businesses across the world and across industries head to the cloud to drive innovation and accelerate operations, 5 cloud vendors stand out as the most-influential in the world: #1 Microsoft, #2 Amazon, #3 Salesforce, #4 SAP, and a new addition to list: #5 Oracle.

These companies are driving not only new cloud technologies but also helping tens of thousands of business customers undergo and benefit from digital transformation to become more customer-centric, create new revenue streams, and develop new products and services more quickly.

Oracle jumped aboard earlier this week on the strength of its very positive fiscal Q4 results overall and in particular for the emergence of its Autonomous Database as a driver of significant revenue for the company.

Oracle joins the Cloud Wars top 5

The Rise of Oracle’s Revolutionary Autonomous Database

The majority of businesses around the world run on the Oracle Database, and as they move to the cloud many are likely to shift at least some of their workloads to Autonomous Database, which is self-monitoring, self-patching, and self-updating. (Please see How Oracle Is Becoming a Cloud Powerhouse: Larry Ellison’s All-In Bet on Autonomous Database.)

On top of that, Oracle’s SaaS business continues to win big numbers of new customers, particularly in the highly strategic Cloud ERP space.

And there’s one more reason Oracle hopped over IBM into the Top 5: it had the wisdom, courage and self-interest to agree to a broad “cloud-interconnect” deal with market leader Microsoft to make it easier for customers to run clouds from both companies easily, securely, and compatibly.

For the four companies ranked above Oracle, here are some recent highlights that outline why they’ve earned those lofty positions:
