In Episode 135 of My Metaverse Minute, Kieron unpacks a lawsuit against Meta for its brand name, and what Meta’s response means for other brands looking to avoid intellectual property theft during the transition between Web 2 and Web3.

Highlights

00:08 — Meta is in the process of being sued by company METAx LLC, a virtual reality company branding itself as “META.”

00:56 — Meta is reportedly fighting the lawsuit, arguing that METAx supplies drastically different goods and services.

01:25 — Meta’s argument hinges on Web3 being different enough from VR services in Web 2 to warrant a separate branded entity. Now is the time for companies to get a handle on how they will migrate their business into the Metaverse.

02:19 — Blending Web 2 and Web3 products and services is an “intellectual property minefield.”
