In this Digital CIO Summit moment, excerpted from the digital event which took place from April 4-6, Suvajit Basu, CIO, GOYA Foods, explains to Bob Evans and Tony Uphoff why purpose matters, as it inspires people, industries, and the world.
Highlights
00:06 — “I think people need purpose…purpose to get up in the morning and work,” suggests Basu. During Covid-19, GOYA employees were still coming into the office. Many of his colleagues were wondering why the work could not be done remotely.
00:40 — “What was our purpose? We [have] got to feed America. The food banks were emptying,” says Basu. “We came here, brave, never worrying about Covid. And that’s how we survived.”
00:54 — Basu explains that GOYA Foods had the “greatest, [most] successful year in the history of GOYA.” It was not just about money — it was about feeding America and keeping shelves full.
01:27 — Whether it be the environment, feeding your soul, or feeding your stomach, Basu says that people need a purpose. “We need a greater purpose than just us to get up and come to work and make our colleagues, our neighbors, our company, our industry, or country successful.”
