How Celosphere 2022 Emphasizes the Democratization of Process Mining

Celosphere 2022 is taking place in an expansive industrial unit on the outskirts of Munich, Germany. The floors are concrete, the strip lights are various shades of blue and purple, and euphoric electronic music appears to tumble down from speakers on the warehouse roof: The mood is relaxed.

Despite its multibillion-dollar valuation, Celonis hasn’t used the two-day event to showcase its corporate prowess. Instead, day one of Celosphere 2022 has been about democratization, mirrored in the inclusive, upbeat conference space and the various breakout sessions framed by Alex Rinke, co-CEO of Celonis, in the first session of the day, where he showcased three new products.

The new additions to the Celonis technology stack include Celonis Sphere, a new approach to process mining that enables a 3D, interconnected overview of every process in an organization, how they relate, and the collective solutions they manifest.

Workforce Productivity is a new application powered by Celonis’s existing task manager feature that enables companies to take a bird’s eye view of productivity by honing in on desktop data. It’s a direct response to the fluid patterns of the workplace and the cultural shift to remote work.

While both of these solutions are ground-breaking and push the boundaries of process mining and execution management, the third product reveal got me particularly excited. Business Miner is designed for business users with little to no data analysis experience, a sentiment reinforced later in the day by Gunther Ramesader, SVP of Solution Engineering and Apps at Celonis.

While Celonis Sphere is enabling data professionals to retrieve results quicker than ever, and Workforce Productivity is expanding the reach of process mining, Business Miner is putting the immense power of Celonis in the hands of everyday business users.

Power to the People

Business Miner works by posing questions and providing answers. Users don’t even have to know what process mining is to benefit from the technology. The onboarding process is guided, and out-of-the-box questions are tailored to specific departments. Business Miner leads people to the next question showing improvement opportunities based on business impact in both percentage and dollar savings.

Beyond this, the technology displays instant statistics and incorporates collaboration tools, so users can instantly share their insights. Overall, Business Miner is a cutting-edge example of how data democratization can lead to tangible results.

In the Acceleration Economy, becoming data-driven is a critical aim. However, when only the most qualified members of your organization can access essential data assets to innovate, there needs to be a solution. Data is a driving force in digital transformation, and organizations must realize that for data to work thoroughly, everyone needs to be able to use it.

Process mining is one area while data access is another, but there are countless aspects of data management and analysis that drive success. Today, democratizing data must become a priority for organizations.

Only when every business user in your organization can access and manipulate data to make decisions will you achieve a competitive edge. Although there is always a place for complex analysis by experts, look at the capabilities of Celonis Sphere as an example; widespread data access and literacy are crucial components, not ones you can ignore.

For years, companies collected data from every known source without knowing what they intended to do with it. Then came data analysis, and organizations used data sets to make targeted business decisions. Low-code/no-code cloud applications are making business processes more straightforward and inclusive than ever before. Yet, widespread access to critical data tools had lagged.

However, there is a change in the air. Big data has a destination — the desktops of every business user in every organization. With developments like the Celonis Business Miner, data is becoming democratized. Soon, instead of using it to make targeted decisions, companies can provide instant data access to any user anytime so they can use it to find solutions to problems they never knew existed. That is the definition of data-driven.
