Throughout its QlikWorld conference for customers and partners in Las Vegas this week, Qlik celebrated customer and partner success and innovation using the Qlik product suite.
Qlik is on the Acceleration Economy Top 10 Shortlist of Data Modernization Enablers. Acceleration Economy CEO John Siefert and practitioner analyst Wayne Sadin have been on location at QlikWorld delivering analyses based on Qlik executive, customer and partner feedback.
Recognizing Global Transformations
Organizations representing a diverse set of industries were honored in the Global Transformation Awards programs. Awards were presented to organizations that have maximized the power of Qlik, putting the platform at the center of their data strategies. Details on the recipients and their applications follow:
- Merck: the pharmaceutical giant was recognized for company-wide adoption of Qlik, including in its Global Clinical Trials Operations team that is responsible for over 300 late development stage clinical trials, involving 8,000 users in 60 countries. The Qlik application helps these employees maintain medicine quality standards and delivery.
- Honda: The maker of automobiles, motorcycles, and power equipment has deployed Qlik analytics to more than 7,000 users to uncover insights – even among unrelated data sources – to support business decision-making. Honda is using Qlik on a company-wide basis for functions including root-cause analysis of sales situations, analyzing the occurrence of quality problems, and reducing production costs.
- CaixaBank: the leading financial group in Spain uses Qlik Sense to support 25,000 employees with real-time data on all devices. The company’s MySales app helps employees analyze sales and business objectives and gain insights that the bank is using to define its commercial strategy.
- Syngenta Group: The agriculture tech firm has deployed Qlik to put data and analytics at the heart of its digital transformation, with a 70% increase in analytics usage by over 11,000 employees each of the last two years. Syngenta recently adopted Qlik Cloud to further expand data usage across the organization.
- C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group: the network of nearly 100 mayors of large cities worldwide is working to spur action to confront climate change. Leveraging both Qlik analytics and advanced capabilities such as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), C40 is gaining real-world insights on issues such as greenhouse gas emissions that it shares with its member cities.
- Direct Relief: The nonprofit humanitarian organization was recognized for its ongoing use of Qlik to make critical decisions on the allocation of staff, funds, and resources.
Sadin said Merck’s work with Qlik represents “a wonderful application for analytics, a wonderful application for databases. If you’re able to speed the pipeline of drug development, that helps all of us be healthier.” Sadin spoke in an interview with Randy Krauss, executive director of metrics, analytics, and performance at Merck. (Krauss is pictured receiving Merck’s award at the top of this page).
Digital Transformation Partnership Expands
HARMAN, a Samsung Electronics subsidiary, showcased its work and achievements with Qlik technology while the two companies disclosed an expansion of their partnership.
HARMAN is an audio and electronics giant that produces nearly 5,000 products across more than 10 manufacturing plants; it relies heavily on a complex supply chain and logistics operation. That’s why real-time data access is so vital to the company.
HARMAN Digital Transformation Solutions Chief Product Officer, Dr. Jai Ganesh and Senior Director Digital, Analytics, Annette Jonker joined Qlik CEO Mike Capone (see our interview with Capone) during his mainstage keynote to talk about their expanded relationship.
With Qlik, HARMAN has been able to unify its data, connect teams and departments, and adapt to fluid market conditions. For example, using the self-service, Qlik-powered Helix Analytics Experience Platform, HARMAN has enabled cross-functional teams to easily collaborate and respond quickly to changes with minimal impact on the manufacturing cycle.
HARMAN activates data from enterprise sources including SAP for better business decisions while leveraging Qlik Data Integration. To make that possible, HARMAN feeds data from various sources into its Snowflake data cloud to blend internal and external data.
“We’ve been on a significant digital transformation journey the past few years, and effectively deployed Qlik to drive our internal data-driven decisioning,” said Nick Parrotta, President of Digital Transformation Solutions & Chief Digital and Information Officer (CDIO) at HARMAN.
Parrotta added, “With Qlik, we have the data we need to get answers in minutes, allowing us to quickly pivot while still effectively managing different aspects of our business.”
Qlik and HARMAN said they are expanding their partnership to deliver data and analytics to enterprise customers aimed at improving their business results through HARMAN’s Digital Transformation Solutions business unit that employs over 7,000 people with expertise in AI/ML, cloud computing, and analytics.
“HARMAN has defined a data governance model that allows end-users to access data safely, in compliance with corporate data ownership and security rules, while developing what meets their department’s needs. This is possible due to the governance features of the Qlik platform,” Sadin says. “HARMAN also has a defined process for ‘promoting’ a user-written report/dashboard into enterprise use, which balances the need for data security and consistency with users’ needs to get at information now.”
Other partners highlighted at QlikWorld included:
- Databricks, which demonstrated how combining Qlik with its Lakehouse technology helps auto manufacturers become more efficient and sustainable. Databricks is also on the Acceleration Economy Top 10 Shortlist of Data Modernization Enablers.
- MEHRWERK, which explained how it’s leveraging its process mining software with Qlik to improve a Quote to Cash system and maximize sales ROI for Varian, a large customer.
