In this Digital CIO Summit moment, excerpted from the digital event which took place from April 4-6, CISO Chris Hughes and Bob Evans discuss the evolving role of a chief information officer (CIO) and the relationship between a chief information security officer (CISO) and CIO.

Highlights

00:05 — The role of a CIO has shifted from being internal to external facing “with the customer,” explains Chris. He explains that “from a cybersecurity angle,” CISOs should work with C-suite teams and CIOs to understand how they are using technology, data, and in what context.

00:55 — Bob asks Chris about the state of the relationship between CIOs and CISOs. Are they finding that there are ways to collaborate fully, but also maintain their independent roles?

01:11 — “I think it really depends on the organization and the relationship between those two individuals that fill those roles. I’ve seen it work good and bad,” explains Chris. It comes down to having rapport and trust with one another. “We’re both trying to enable the business to be successful, serve our customers, our stakeholders, and I think that can go a long way.”
