In episode 90 of the Leadership Minute, CIO Kenny Mullican puts today’s leading generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools to the test. He asks ChatGPT-3.5 and 4, Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing, Google Bard, and ChatGPT with Bing the same question about a new feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and compares the results.
This episode is sponsored by “Selling to the New Executive Buying Committee,” an Acceleration Economy Course designed to help vendors, partners, and buyers understand the shifting sands of how mid-market and enterprise CXOs are making purchase decisions to modernize technology.
Highlights
00:43 — Kenny has been curious about whether generative AI tools can improve his productivity at work. He asked each tool the same question: “What are some use cases for the new Financial tags feature that was recently introduced for Dynamics 365 Finance, and in what version was that feature introduced?” The different tools provided a wide variety of answers.
01:35 — Kenny says that because ChatGPT‘s dataset has information only through September 2021, it can’t give good answers about anything that has happened since then.

02:05 — ChatGPT-3.5 wasn’t aware of the new Financial tags feature but acknowledged, “Dynamics 365 is a rapidly evolving product, and new features and updates are regularly introduced.”
02:32 — ChatGPT-4 gave a similar answer, but used what it knows about similar systems to speculate how this feature might be used in Dynamics 365.
03:00 — Microsoft’s AI-powered Bing provided “much more usable information,” says Kenny. It offered details about the new feature, how it could be used, and links to related information on the web.
03:30 — Google Bard knew when the Financial tags feature was introduced, what it does, and more. While it recommended doing a Google search for more information, Kenny says, “I think they’re probably still going to have to work a little bit on integrating the experience between the AI and the googling experience.”
04:21 — Finally, he tried the new Bing plugin for ChatGPT-4, which combines data in its knowledge base with new Bing search data. Kenny says it provides better information about recent events.
05:05 — “All these tools are a little bit different,” Kenny says. “They don’t all give you the exact same information. So if you try one tool, and you’re not quite satisfied with the results, you might try putting the same question into another tool.”
05:30 — Overall, he believes that generative AI tools can provide answers to some questions or problems more quickly than general web searches.
