In the acceleration economy, efficiency is a core principle. Cloud technology solutions are providing organizations with opportunities for aggregation, consolidation, and broader accessibility than ever before.

One of the defining characteristics of the best technology platforms is the proficiency by which they mirror the current business environment, which is fluid and increasingly unpredictable. JumpCloud responds to this shifting landscape by offering a platform that perfectly adapts to the hybrid workplace, one of the most significant transitions the business world has seen in a generation.

Who They Are

Founded in 2013, primarily by Rajat Bhargava and Larry Middle, the platform launched as a remote device and identity access management tool. Since then, JumpCloud has introduced various services and mechanisms in response to the challenge of remote work, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and the rise of Apple as an enterprise-friendly solution.

While Middle left his position as CFO and senior vice president of operations in December 2021, MIT graduate and serial entrepreneur Bhargava remains the company’s CEO.

What They Do

JumpCloud is a cloud-based open directory for remote information technology (IT) management. The platform supports efficient IT management through unification. Users can handle identity verification, access management, and device security from a single, user-friendly directory.

JumpCloud’s identity management capabilities include built-in multi-factor authentication and integrated identity security features, so identities are up to date across all connected systems, and a native password manager.

Users can remotely manage devices in any operating system (OS), servers, and other IT infrastructure. Regarding security and compliance, the platform enables users to enforce policies, monitor events, and roll out patches.

With JumpCloud, users can synch all the tools in their technology stack to reduce the back-and-forth between various departments and support quick, unified access. Also, conditional access policies enable users to implement a zero trust protocol and respond to emerging cyber threats.

Ultimately, the JumpCloud solution helps secure and simplify IT management by reducing the number of solutions required to tackle the full spectrum of responsibilities. This reduction also leads to lower costs, as does the platform’s capacity for open integration.

However, the most significant benefit is the time saved in onboarding and IT workload by having a comprehensive remote management solution via a single interface. A solution that users can quickly adapt to any working model: on-prem, fully remote, or hybrid.

Who They’ve Impacted

To date, JumpCloud has more than 180,000 clients. One client and JumpCloud partner organization, Altitude Integration, used the platform as a cloud enabler for itself and its clients.

Altitude Integration is a managed server provider and IT consultancy. The company used JumpCloud to help it scale its and its client’s business and provide it with a cloud-based identity and access security solution.

The ultimate aim was to upgrade its products and transition its clients from an on-prem environment to the cloud. Altitude Integrations recognized the need to transition to the cloud and how this would enable its clients to scale by adopting cloud-based solutions.

Altitude Integration knew there was a reluctance amongst many of its clients to move identity and access management to the cloud. However, it knew the curiosity was there, and if the companies wanted to achieve the scalability they required, the cloud was the only way to do so.

JumpCloud enabled Altitude Integration to focus on the entirety of its client landscape because it was flexible by design. Regardless of OS, all clients could adopt the solution to suit their organizations.

JumpCloud enabled Altitude Integrations to remove its dependency on on-prem infrastructure and easily transition to a cloud-based IT management system.

Altitude Integration quickly saw tangible gains in both efficiency and workflow. The Altitude Integration team later introduced clients to the product as part of its management strategy

The Future and Closing Thoughts

While remote and hybrid models aren’t the only workplace structures JumpCloud support (every company can benefit from the reduced costs and efficiency of the cloud), it certainly addresses a pressing business concern. And a recent product development shows how JumpCloud is capitalizing on this use case.

Remote Assist is a new service that enables JumpCloud users to provide remote assistance to users on Windows, macOS, or Linux devices via their browser. This high-level remote management feature sets JumpCloud apart and goes a long way to establishing the company as one of the most comprehensive remote IT management systems on the market.
