In this moment, excerpted from Acceleration Economy’s Cloud Data Strategy digital event, which took place on March 23, Sean Chittenden, Senior Director of Engineering, CockroachDB, shares how the company was able to help a customer create a custom database on a short timeline that can “handle the scale out workload for them.”
Highlights
00:09 — CockroachDB had a customer who needed to satisfy its regulatory compliance requirements for information tracking. Chittenden describes this as the customer needing to “satisfy some auditing effectively.” In order to meet their compliance requirements, the customer had to operate on a very short timeline.
00:28 — The customer created an application on their laptop on a Monday and needed to “get it into production by Thursday.” They needed someone to review the database that they created, and Chittenden says it became really clear, really quickly, that this would be an “incredibly large-scale application.”
00:55 — Following a quick once over, the application went to production on a Thursday, with less than 24 hours to review and scale where necessary.
01:02 — Chittenden explains, “The reason for that is the database was able to receive the workload, scale, and distribute that out, without real human involvement.”
01:35 — CockroachDB was able to “handle the scale out workload for them… there was no training involved. It was really kind of a remarkable story because the engineer was great and the engineers working on this and the lead, they were all great engineers, very product-focused, not database and not scale-centric…and it just worked.”
