In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob Evans discusses Snowflake‘s Telecom Data Cloud, focusing specifically on the notion of it being a “manifest destiny for industry clouds.”
Highlights
00:31 — Yesterday, Snowflake came out with an interesting announcement about its Telecom Data Cloud. Bob notes that this is a “manifest destiny for industry clouds becoming the only way that businesses are going to want to use cloud services into the future.”
00:59 — Until now, industry clouds have been “sort of general-purpose clouds.” The demands of “today’s customer-centric digital economy are such that that’s just not enough anymore,” says Bob.
01:33 — In the case of Snowflake, the company raised four crucial points in its announcement about the Telecom Data Cloud. Snowflake aims to:
- Accelerate digital transformation
- Enable superior customer experiences
- Maximize operational efficiencies
- Monetize new data services
“All of these four are incredibly important…this is the one that really stands out to me,” Bob highlights, in reference to monetizing new data services.
02:34 — By going full-force into the industry cloud business, Snowflake is positioning itself very aggressively along with other industry cloud leaders like Salesforce, Google Cloud, SAP, Workday, and IBM.
03:27 — This announcement points to the fact that “what got us here in the cloud is not going to be sufficient to take businesses where they need to go over the next two or three years,” notes Bob. He predicts, “That future is going to be deeply around industry-specific clouds, like what Snowflake is doing with its Telecom Data Cloud.”
