In today’s Cloud Wars Minute, I discuss the Microsoft Vision feature for Copilot.
Highlights
00:03 — It’s been a rocky road for the Vision feature in Microsoft Copilot. Announced in October, Vision allows Copilot to see and discuss what is on a user’s screen in real-time with the Microsoft Edge browser. Users can ask Copilot what they’re seeing and instruct Copilot to perform actions. When introduced, privacy and copyright considerations dominated the conversation.
00:47 — Microsoft is responding with a cautious approach; the service is opt-in only with a high emphasis on security. There’s no storage or usage of data to train AI models. Microsoft’s experience shows Vision is a cautionary tale that harks back to the adage that you can’t run before you walk. There are times for relentless progress and other times for caution; Microsoft is recognizing and acting upon these distinctions.
