Welcome to the Cloud Wars Minute — your daily news and commentary show, hosted by Cloud Wars Founder Bob Evans. Each episode provides insights and perspectives around the “reimagination machine” that is the Cloud.
In this Cloud Wars Minute, Bob shares a few ideas expressed by Oracle Co-founder, Chairman, and CTO Larry Ellison at Oracle CloudWorld, including the concept of the “internet of clouds.”
Highlights
00:25 — Bob says that Ellison will be known as a “legendary technology and strategy innovator.” Furthermore, Ellison came up with some “pretty interesting linguistic twists this week.”
00:40 — Ellison referred to the multi-cloud phenomenon as the “internet of clouds.” Within this fundamental idea is the notion that multi-clouds have gone from “walled gardens where data could go in, but it was hard to get out” to the internet of clouds. The goal of the internet of clouds is to create a seamless movement of data and applications and interoperability among cloud platforms.
01:19 — In the absence of the full internet of clouds, customers are faced with more complexities and experience greater costs across the board, in addition to experiencing time delays. So, there are positive outlets for getting the full internet of clouds done.
01:44 — Customer choice is paramount. It is the tech industry’s job to provide solutions for the customer’s specific needs — and Oracle is taking this very seriously.
03:01 — Ellison announced that the “walls of the walled gardens are coming down,” and Oracle will begin the shift towards an internet of clouds. Bob predicts that every major cloud provider will do whatever it can to make the seamless experience and interoperability of these cloud platforms a reality. He says that Oracle is pushing hard to make a point of differentiation because it can bring so much value to customers.
