Salesforce Applies GenAI to Diverse Nonprofit Use Cases

Nonprofit organizations must ensure that every cent they raise is not only accounted for but distributed in a way that best serves the goals they were established to achieve. That’s why AI, with its ability to streamline processes, optimize output, and make data transparent, could have a major impact on the sector.

Now, Salesforce has introduced new AI capabilities for Nonprofit Cloud that could help organizations use the technology to realize the potential of AI-driven decision-making.

AI-Powered Proposals and Summaries

The new AI and data capabilities for Nonprofit Cloud are aimed at helping nonprofit organizations to become more efficient, provide a more personalized service to donors, and ultimately increase funding opportunities.

Leveraging its Einstein 1 Platform, Salesforce has introduced the following capabilities:

Fundraising Gift Proposals: Salesforce is enabling organizations to use GenAI to craft personalized gift proposals based on donor data. This includes information like support for previous cases, personal interests, and previous interactions with the organization.

Einstein Summaries: Salesforce is introducing a series of GenAI-powered summaries directly embedded in Nonprofit Cloud workflows. Program Summaries will enable organizations to generate program summaries quickly and analyze the impact of their efforts.

The Major Donor Engagement Summary feature makes it easier to prepare engagement materials for key donors while Grantmaking Summaries for Grant Application for Board Review generates one-page summaries of complex grant applications. When it comes to boosting grant success and sharing data on performance, a feature like this is very important.

Finally, Notes Summaries summarize communications with stakeholders, ensuring there is a clear, and up-to-date record of critical interactions.,

Data Cloud for Nonprofits: With this service, Salesforce enables organizations to unite structured and unstructured data from various sources to give organizations a holistic view of data from donors, volunteers, and other related participants. This streamlined data integration module is essentially the gateway to fuelling the advanced capabilities of the Nonprofit Cloud and will help non-profits to better understand and boost their fundraising efforts.

Closing thoughts

“Every nonprofit wants to provide the best experience for donors, volunteers, board members, staff — and most importantly, the people and causes they serve,” says Lori Freeman, VP & Global GM of Nonprofit at Salesforce.

“But, they have a lot to accomplish with limited resources. With industry-specific AI and data tools, Salesforce is helping nonprofits boost productivity by augmenting staff with AI, use data more effectively to build deeper relationships with their stakeholders, and ultimately, raise the funds needed to meet their mission.”

As mentioned at the start of this article, the nonprofit sector has a lot to gain from GenAI, and, building on its existing Nonprofit Cloud, Salesforce is addressing many of the key pain points. What I find particularly interesting about these releases is the duality of outcomes supported by GenAI.

On the one hand, the technology is making it easier to track and share the metrics of campaigns which is providing more interested parties within an organization with the information they need to make better-informed decisions for future fundraising efforts. However, on the other hand, the GenAI capabilities introduced by Salesforce, alongside the data integration features, are making it easier to personalize approaches.

Of course, the intended outcome through both aspects is to increase funding, but it also highlights the flexibility of GenAI, the multiple outcomes it supports, and the ease at which it can quickly transform the way companies operate.

Regarding availability, Fundraising Gift Proposals are currently in beta and will become generally available later this year, while Program Summaries, Major Donor Meeting Briefs, Grantmaking Summaries, and Notes Summaries can also be expected by the close of 2024. Data Cloud for Nonprofits is available now.
