In this special AI Ecosystem Report, practitioner analyst Chris Hughes sits down with Nick Heddy, president and chief commerce officer, Pax8, and Eva-Maria Elya, vice president, global channel & MSSP, Lookout, to explore their strategic partnership and its impact on strengthening mobile security for businesses of all sizes.
Highlights
Introducing Lookout and Pax8 (00:42)
Lookout stops breaches. Cybercriminals phish a user on their mobile device, using these credentials to access data stored in cloud applications. Lookout protects this entire chain, from the mobile device to that data in the cloud.
Pax8 is a cloud marketplace that drives customer acquisition and solution consumption for the global technology ecosystem. It serves over 35,000 partners today and has 550,000 customers. A little over 15 million unique users are procuring software from its marketplace.
How the Partnership Addresses the Mobile Security Gap (01:56)
There is a huge increase in phishing attacks. Lookout’s “Q1 Mobile Threat Landscape Report” saw that there were almost three times the amount of phishing, malicious, and denylisted links being delivered to mobile devices compared to the year before. So it’s becoming very critical, especially for a managed security provider (MSP), to have a solution that closes that gap on mobile devices.
For Lookout, it was a natural fit to put its mobile EDR solution on the Pax8 marketplace. Pax8 developed the marketplace with MSPs at the center. A cybersecurity explosion is happening right now. As Pax8 interviews its advisory councils, Lookout is being mentioned by name. Pax8 listens to its partners and adds the products they are asking for.

Benefits of the Relationship to MSPs (04:58)
Lookout is fully integrated into the marketplace. For an MSP, that means with an account, they can go on the marketplace, add Lookout Mobile EDR into their basket, and provision a new tenant within minutes. Pax8 vets vendors to provide the best user experience to the MSPs and eventually their end customers.
Nick shares that Pax8 has multi-tenancy available, so it’s easy for an MSP to look at one unified dashboard, where they can easily see what’s going on in their fleet. They can add new customer tenants within minutes as well.
The three big value propositions that Pax8 supplies: One, billing is a lot easier. The second is instant provisioning. For customers who want to turn this on, it’s as easy as going in, dropping it in the cart, and it’s turned on immediately for those customers. The third is support, in a lot of flavors.
What to Expect for the Rest of 2024 (08:09)
Lookout is always on the “lookout” for evolving cyber tactics. It has its security teams analyzing attacks and also has an AI-driven data platform doing so. What it’s seeing these days is that there’s an increase in phishing attacks, primarily targeting multi-factor authentication solutions. Sometimes the attackers are teenagers. They get a mobile phishing kit for a couple of dollars on the dark web, and off they go.
