Welcome to Episode 64 of the Cloud Wars Horizon Minute — featuring news and commentary hosted by Acceleration Economy analyst Tom Smith. Each episode provides insights into one or more innovation Accelerators on the Cloud Wars Horizon. This episode focuses on the latest artificial intelligence (AI) developments relating to Watson from IBM.

Highlights

00:42 —  Earlier this week we covered neurothink, a startup looking to make AI “radically accessible” through a multi-cloud architecture and low code/no code technology.

00:57 — There’s another compelling development in democratizing AI – this time from IBM, which has extensively researched the factors holding back AI from production — or operational — deployment.

01:20 — IBM has expanded its embeddable AI portfolio with three libraries that aim to help customers, developers, and partners quickly build and launch AI applications that can run across any hybrid or multi-cloud environment. The goal: Lower barriers to AI adoption.

01:45 — The libraries include innovations developed by IBM Research as well as open-source technology. They include:

  • Watson Natural Language Processing Library: helps developers provide capabilities to process human language to derive meaning and context through a speaker’s intent and sentiment.
  • Watson Speech to Text Library: enables speech transcription with speed and accuracy for better customer service.
  • Watson Text to Speech Library: enables developers to convert written text into natural-sounding audio with accuracy in a variety of languages and voices.

02:10 — This is another positive development, among many, from IBM and the AI market more broadly, aimed at making this powerful technology more available and more easily leveraged by a range of users, developers, and enterprises.
