In episode 81 of the AI/Hyperautomation Minute, Tom Smith shares details of Celonis‘ recently issued sustainability progress report, how it’s performing today, and its top priorities looking forward. The report also details a couple of early customers using Celonis’ sustainability applications to enhance their results.
Highlights
00:46 — Sustainability is a CEO-level priority at Celonis. Back in November, co-CEO Alex Rinke explained how the company hosts three impact days led by executive sponsors. Rinke led the sustainability effort, hosting hackathons that brought developers and customers together to focus on sustainability and helped influence the sustainability product roadmap.
01:15 — Celonis recently released its 2022 sustainability report, which included performance data and go-forward plans to reduce its environmental impact. The company’s emission “hotspots” are procurement (or purchased goods and services) at 67% of the total, business travel at 11%, and employee commuting/remote work at 11%.
01:30 — The report also explains how Celonis aims to address these hotspots. In procurement, Celonis will prioritize vendors according to their carbon emissions and climate aspiration levels. It’s implemented IntegrityNext and Ecovadis applications to monitor the sustainability performance of suppliers.
01:50 — In 2022, the company switched from offering cars to employees in sales to a transportation allowance. Its goal is to reduce the fleet to zero cars by 2030. Directly leased offices will be screened for the possibility of switching to renewable energy contracts.
02:10 — When it comes to helping customers drive sustainability outcomes, the company announced in November its partnerships with IntegrityNext, EcoVadis, and Climatiq to help customers operationalize sustainability. Sustainability work by two customers is featured in the report.
03:00 — Lyondell Basell uses Celonis’ Sustainable Spend Management application to measure procurement performance from a sustainability perspective as it looks to embed sustainability criteria into purchasing decisions
03:25 — ALDI SÜD participated in the sustainability hackathon and uses Celonis’ execution management system (EMS) to analyze daily pallet and truck utilization to optimize outbound transportation from their central warehouses to their stores.
