In this Celosphere 2023 interview, Acceleration Economy’s Kieron Allen and Celonis‘ Laura Gardner speak with Timo Peters, head of process insights and value at Bayer.
Highlights
Peters is responsible for driving the process mining implementation, and adoption of the technology, at Bayer, which received a Celonis Game Changer award, winning the Excellence category, at Celosphere. Peters had been with Bayer about 12 months at the time of this discussion.
Process Mining Use Cases and Community Engagement (01:37)
Peters says Celonis process mining is being used for order to cash, source to pay, and plant maintenance use cases. The company stays engaged with the Celonis community to learn and generate ideas for opportunities with process mining. Discussions with other customers are valuable to Bayer.
Momentum Around Adoption (02:55)
Broader adoption at Bayer is helping to generate more value. If one person can deliver one insight per month and that can be followed up and implemented, imagine what would happen if there are 100 people doing this, Peters notes. This makes adoption, and transparency about process mining use cases, very important. Training is also critical so that employees know how to use the software. That was a critical factor for broader adoption at Bayer.
Usage Rate Spikes (04:59)
Over the last 12 months, the number of Celonis users at Bayer grew from about 280 to more than 2,600. Logins per month have grown from 1,500 per month to more than 21,000. The average user’s time using process mining tools has grown from 15 minutes to roughly one hour.
Celosphere Announcements (07:23)
Bayer has been beta-testing Object Centric Process Mining (OCPM) to understand the functionality and value better. And now it’s working with the generative AI functionality pilot. “I think that is a very important one because we need to make it easier for users to interact with the system, to come to insights…I think that is a game-changer. It’ll be easier to find things.” Open APIs will make it easier to apply multiple tools to solve complex problems.
