It is easy to use Power BI as a self-service tool. However, using it in a multi-developer environment comes with challenges. You can easily end up with silos of Power BI solutions, duplicates of Power Query, and DAX codes.

Come to this session to learn how to avoid duplicate work using the right architecture for developing your Power BI solution.

Are you ready to take your reporting and data analysis to the next level?

This course is an accelerated hands-on 2-day training designed to teach how attendees how to build reporting and data analysis projects with Power BI Desktop and how to share Power BI reports and dashboards with a wide audience of consumers.

During the course, students will gain the real-world skills required to design, deploy, upgrade and monitor reporting and dashboard solutions using the rapidly-evolving Power BI platform. All the essential Power BI concepts and techniques discussed in lectures are reinforced with hands-on lab exercises in which students will move through the actual steps required to build reporting and dashboard solutions and then to make those solutions accessible using app workspaces and the Power BI app model.

This course includes in-depth coverage of the query tools and data modeling tools in Power BI Desktop. Students will learn how to design complex queries and to write advanced DAX expressions to calculate rankings, rolling averages and year-to-year comparisons. Students will also learn how to design interactive reports using slicers, bookmarks and drillthrough pages.

The course discusses essential differences between reports and dashboards and also examines the strengths and weaknesses between the various types of datasets including imported datasets, DirectQuery datasets and LiveConnect datasets.

With the release of Azure Data Lake and surrounding technologies, it is easy to see why there is hope within the AX and F&SCM communities for a better reporting solution than BYOD. Attend this session to gain a fundamental understanding of what an ADL project may entail, its time frame, estimated cost, and the resulting reporting options available to finance teams to make meaningful business decisions. It’s always best to have clear visibility and understanding of the full implementation cycle before making an investment in a new technology.

Data visualization through tools like PowerBI is now critical. You need to see how your business is running, and understand the dials to move for best performance. Dashboards are only as good as the data behind them. In this session, we’ll show you how you can mistakenly create what appears to be a useful dashboard in Excel or PowerBI, but isn’t relevant due to poor data management.  We will then walk you through best practices and tools for effective data organization and governance processes, so you can ensure you will walk away with accurate dashboards that will drive stellar results.

Configuring a Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations system requires settings on hundreds of forms. In this session, we look at how you can use data management to streamline the setup of a new system with spreadsheets. Once you have these spreadsheets, they can be used to guide you through the setup in an orderly fashion.

This type of configuration is not without challenges, including the format of the data, number of spreadsheets required, the order to run the sheets. Laura has been fully configuring systems since AX2012 with spreadsheets for 7 years and will walk you through the challenges and ways to overcome them.

Do you have multiple companies? Should you use copy company or some other methodology? Let’s look at the pros and cons of copy company vs. rerunning the same spreadsheets into the new company (ies).

Once you’ve configured you have to migrate data. Some of the challenges with data migration are similar but there are also unique challenges as well. Next we talk about the differences between configuration and data migration and how you use the data management framework differently for data migration. Customers and vendors have some real challenges to be able to load this data and then update it if addresses or other information changes. There are some techniques that can be used to guarantee updates are possible without having to look up record ids, party numbers, or address/location ids.

Learning Objectives:

•Understand the challenges with loading many data entities at once and ways to overcome those challenges
•Using Excel to help build the data to be loaded
•Knowing what to migrate from legacy systems and key data entities that will be required
•Steps to validate data
•What to do when you make a mistake and all that bad data is in your system

Audience: Functional and Technical staff responsible for configuring D365 Finance and Operations and loading data from other systems

Level: Intermediate

Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of data management framework required

Preparation: Please bring your own internet capable Windows PC to class for the hands on lab portion/class exercises.

How do you expand reporting when your GP SQL server is overloaded? Set up a new server…isnt that costly?  What if it was less than $100/month? Don’t we need a SQL DBA? No, with Azure Data Factory it’s easy for a business analyst with intermediate SQL skills to copy tables, transform data, and build sophisticated workflows. Power Platform offers similar capabilities, but you might need a full database where you can build views and stored procedures.

In this session, we will walk you through the process of installing a gateway and programming all the logic from the Azure portal.
