Leadership across many industries faced difficult business choices during the global pandemic of 2020. Either accept the dramatic changes, adapt and modify, or attempt business as usual and often flounder. The 2020 pandemic worked as an accelerator of digital transformation, and those industries not yet prepared for the shift were hit the hardest. Though, industries already making adjustments toward digital transformation were better positioned for the accelerated change into the new business landscape. Ultimately, better prepared businesses were able to save more money, and often improve the employee and customer experience along the way. An excellent examples comes to us from digital transformation within the healthcare industry.

Healthcare professionals have gone through extensive education and training. Which is why using their precious time performing menial tasks can be so frustrating for professionals who need all the time they can salvage in order to serve the people at the center of healthcare; patients. Unfortunately, this crucial time is being absored by the demands of outdated systems, standards, and practices. This is why adding Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field has, and is, changing the healthcare landscape for the better.

The medical field has yet to fully tap into the transformative capabilities of RPA and AI. Still, the introduction of automation has already dramatically changed the landscape. Artificial Intelligence algorithms are great for automating arduous tasks and can sometimes outperform humans in the tasks they’re trained to do.

From reviewing patient history, and gather encounter data for the purpose of diagnosis, data collection is an increasingly important aspect of healthcare. As critical as this data is, gathering it from disparate systems, translating it into actionable information, and carefully handling it tends to be a lot of time-consuming work, often handled by doctors, nurses, or other critical staff, preventing them from performing more highly skilled tasks. RPA can be utilized to “mimic” the tedious and repetitive actions that staff would perform; freeing them up to do the highly cognitive aspects of their job. Adding AI can take this step farther and allow the automation to make “decisions” around data, further expanding how automation can help.

Microsoft Power Automate is changing the game once again. Microsoft Power Automate is a service to help create automated workflows between apps and services in order to synchronize files, get notifications, collect data, and more. By taking many robotic-like activities out of the hands of humans, and placing these jobs and their acquired, quantifiable data in the hands of AI and Machine Learning, aglorithms are helping improve visibility throughout patient care, reducing errors, and executing repetitive, high-volume work in less time. Microsoft Power Automate implemented by Mazars helps businesses automate everyday activities leading to more efficiency, and it also provides employees a tremendous user experience. Imagine freeing up employees to spend more time doing what they’re hired to do, and not the robotic activities they spend precious time completing; that’s the power of RPA with Mazars.
