Low-code/No-code tools have been on quite a journey. They started off as just a shiny new toy for tech-savvy business users and evolved into full-fledged, robust applications for both citizen developers and pro developers to utilize.

In this “Back @ IT” episode, I’ll dive into the low-code/no-code arena and explore the evolution, the contention, and the collaboration.

Highlights:

00:31: The low-code/no-code market will continue to grow with projections of $187 billion by 2030.

01:53: What does low-code/no-code mean and how did it get started?

03:10: Who are some of the players in the low-code/no-code space? Some are familiar names while others are still trying to make a name for themselves. The entire premise is to provide easy-to-use tools for tech-savvy folks to leverage to create apps for their unique needs.

05:05: The rise of the citizen developer spawned a new category of creators, not just power users.

06:17: The early onset of the low-code/no-code tools cause controversy and sparked negativity in the pro-developer community.

07:12: Vendors listened and built capabilities for pro devs and citizen devs to collaborate on these low-code/no-code apps. This led to the growth of truly creative and business-necessary apps.
