In episode 51 of the CXO Minute, Janet Schijns explores how businesses work with partners as they transition to multi-cloud environments.

Register here for your on-demand pass to view all content from Partners Ecosystem Digital Summit. The digital event, which took place on April 20, focused on analyzing the business and IT imperatives around cloud, AI, automation, data modernization, and cybersecurity that define the future of partnerships.

Highlights

00:21 — Janet starts by looking at the cloud computing space. As teams are trying to move to faster release cycles, they’re looking at cloud-based architecture and services to help them “do more than what we’ve traditionally looked at as backup for infrastructure.”

00:40 — Often, businesses work with partners to help them design this architecture to become a hybrid multi-cloud and agile environment. But a challenge is that increasing development speed is often limited by the boundaries of infrastructure.

01:02 — There has been an adoption of cloud computing so that businesses can be more efficient in their growth journeys. Now, with the shift to multi-cloud, more partners are coming in, and “it’s not just . . . [businesses] being more efficient, but also more effective.”

01:28 — Janet explains, “When you think about legacy, when you made a cloud decision with a partner, it was ‘How do I better manage my infrastructure?’…But now, we’re starting to talk about things like software on demand . . . ” This is where partners are coming in.

01:55 — They’re showing customers why it’s not enough to adopt a multi-cloud environment. “You have to get cohesion, you have to have a cloud-first vision,” Janet notes. Partners are helping businesses define how to use a multi-cloud approach that gives their team the flexibility to deploy what they want anywhere and have workflow portability and accessibility.

02:27 — Partners are digging in with DevOps applications that support multi-cloud to help organizations prepare for what Janet refers to as “a multi-cloud future.”

02:54 — Janet sees partners digging in not just on the “Why a cloud deployment?” but more on:

  • What are the service models?
  • How did they benefit from micro-services that can be delivered and designed in a multi-cloud environment?
  • Where do they want to have cloud-agnostic DevOps?

03:14 — For too long, many companies had a singular cloud approach to their DevOps, which brings a variety of problems. Partners are helping businesses find the right approach for their company, identifying what is most efficient and effective.

03:37 — Additionally, partners are working with customers to ask questions such as “How and when does a multi-cloud strategy enable you to grow and have flexibility?” Because their customers are embracing multi-cloud, and they’re being supported by cloud-agnostic solutions, firms need to be able to move seamlessly between those services.

04:10 — “We know that some of the early use cases are still in play, even in this multi-cloud environment, including IT infrastructure, which can be made elastic and can scale up and scale down automatically,” Janet elaborates. This means teams can build and test applications working with their partner for web, mobile, and APIs without worrying about their architecture.

04:39 — How can a multi-cloud data strategy be secured, accessible across any network, and optimized for things like machine learning and artificial intelligence? Partners are setting up multi-cloud environments that enable teams to deploy in any cloud with a single deployment workflow.

05:19 — Janet believes the future is clearly multi-cloud and that partners are harnessing the power of that cloud for their customers. She encourages businesses to talk to a partner today about multi-cloud strategies if they aren’t already doing so. She suggests asking them how they can help improve your efficiency as well as your effectiveness through a strong multi-cloud strategy.
