Exposure management is a core component of cybersecurity resilience. The ongoing monitoring of an organization’s attack surface enables cybersecurity professionals to mitigate risk in context.
Tenable, a leading provider of preventative security technology, has the industry’s largest repository of data related to exposure mitigation. This month, the company announced the launch of ExposureAI, a new platform that uses generative AI to simplify and bolster the effectiveness of a company’s preventative security approach.
Generative AI for Next-Generation Exposure Management
The Tenable One Exposure Management Platform is Tenable’s flagship product, and ExposureAI has been integrated into the platform to accelerate the speed at which companies can make preemptive security decisions. One of the critical benefits of generative AI is the democratization of data analysis across sectors and use cases.
In the case of exposure management, ExposureAI will enable more users to become proactive defenders in their organization by providing them with an easy, non-technical way to find and mitigate threats to their existing IT infrastructure. Preventative cybersecurity burdens security teams because their focus is on tackling current threats or live attacks.
A system driven by generative AI and natural language search ensures that users don’t need advanced technical knowledge to find and mitigate potential attacks. As well as alleviating pressure on security teams, this approach broadens the range of users that can help support a company’s preventative security strategy and prioritize remediation.
Beyond this, the new technology provides mitigation guidance in a way that’s easy to understand and act upon. ExposureAI summarizes the attack path of any given exposure and presents it as a written narrative. By doing so, Tenable is supporting users unfamiliar with attack path analysis to make informed and confident decisions regarding mitigation.
Finally, ExposureAI provides clear insights into impending threats by continually monitoring risk, flagging high-risk exposures, and recommending actions. Ultimately, the addition of generative AI to Tenable’s existing platform makes its functionality more consumable and fuels greater adoption.
Industry-Leading Threat Data Access Powered by Snowflake
Supporting the ExposureAI engine is the Tenable Exposure Graph, a powerful data lake delivered by Snowflake. Tenable shifted to Snowflake in 2022, having previously relied on a technology stack based on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Elastic MapReduce (EMR), and Simple Storage (S3). A growing need to scale led the company to the Snowflake-powered data lake, which now supports the entirety of the Tenable product suite.
As with any AI product, data quality will determine how well it achieves its intended purpose. To that end, ExposureAI leverages the largest repository of contextual exposure data, including one trillion unique exposures of 60 billion exposure events, 800 million diverse security configurations, and one billion assets.
Closing Thoughts
In the past, we’ve talked about how generative AI expands the functionality of existing technologies to address critical cybersecurity, data innovation, and AI/hyperautomation pain points in ways many organizations may never have envisioned.
In the case of Tenable, its existing Tenable One Exposure Management Platform has been democratized and elevated by generative AI. ExposureAI is enabling more users to support their company’s preventative security efforts. And, the more people you have on the frontline of your cybersecurity perimeter, the less chance an attacker will infiltrate your network.
