In episode 82 of the Cybersecurity Minute, guest host Tom Smith speaks with Eva-Maria Elya, vice president, global channel and MSSP at Lookout, regarding a new service specifically for Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs).
Lookout is on the Acceleration Economy Top 10 Shortlist of Cybersecurity Enablers.
Highlights
01:12 — The topic of the discussion is Lookout Endpoint Mobile Security designed for MSSPs to offer to their customers. Providing an overview of Lookout’s technology and strategy, Elya says the company’s value is that it protects data no matter if it’s on the endpoint or in the cloud so business leaders don’t have to worry about protecting their most important asset.
02:23 — Elya gives an overview of the new Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) offering and four key benefits:
- It can detect threats related to mobile devices, including those based on iOS, Android, and Google Chrome. The threats can come from phishing links or various types of malicious software including ransomware
- It can detect and respond to such a threat by warning the user, the administrator, and the MSSP and take remediation actions built into the platform
- Lookout provides data and threat intelligence related to mobile devices so MSSPs can investigate a threat in more detail
- The MSSP can make changes or update its threat model based on those findings
03:42 — The service complements existing EDR services because it covers mobile endpoints and most traditional services don’t. That’s an important distinction because Lookout’s recent Global State of Mobile Phishing report showed threats to mobile devices increasing a lot: 2022 had the highest threat encounter rate ever when it comes to mobile phishing.

Top 10 Shortlist.
05:23 — Lookout has global reach through its MSSP partners, which support organizations of varying sizes, from SMBs to global organizations.
06:13 — Elya shares her perspective on why an MSSP should work with Lookout: The service is optimized for cost-efficient delivery. Lookout provides multi-tenancy that allows an MSSP to manage all its customer instances from one admin console, resulting in an 80% time-saving in policy administration because policies can be copied to new tenants and, in theory, hundreds of new customers can be added to the mobile EDR service in a couple of hours. That’s important for scalability. Lookout also sees a 95% user self-remediation rate which results in much lower usage of the help desk. MSSPs need to avoid support tickets going through the roof when a new service is introduced.
