00:26 — We’ve had voice control in our cars for many years, but it’s always been fairly limited. It’s often been something more like one or two-word commands that you can tell the car to change the radio station or make a phone call.
01:32 — So, it only makes sense to incorporate ChatGPT into the car control capabilities. Unlike earlier systems, ChatGPT uses an advanced artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. Recently, we saw some announcements: Volkswagen announced that it’s partnered with the automotive software company Severance to integrate ChatGPT.

02:17 — It’s starting with ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, which is its electric car line. It’ll be a standard feature in many of Volkswagen’s production vehicles starting in the second quarter of 2024.
03:08 — Another company is DS Automobiles, owned by Stellantis. It’s shown interest in integrating ChatGPT in their cars. In October, DS started a pilot to incorporate ChatGPT into its voice assistant.
03:32 — Lastly, we have an announcement from TomTom. You may know of TomTom as a really big geolocation data company; it provides navigation systems. TomTom announced a deal with ChatGPT to incorporate ChatGPT directly into its navigation system.
04:08 — You could ask it for restaurants around a place and after it lists the restaurants, such as “Add a stop for this restaurant or that store.” Or, if ChatGPT was integrated with a real estate company, you could be driving in your car, and it could direct you to different houses that you’re interested in visiting.
05:16 — It could also be used in situations where you have an emergency, and you’re able to talk to ChatGPT and tell it what’s going on. Maybe it would be able to then place a call to an emergency rescue service.
05:33 — As a CIO of a manufacturing company, I’ve discovered that the technology that eventually became of lots of use to my manufacturing company started as consumer electronics. So, as this technology gets rolled out into our automobiles, I can see that same technology becoming available for business in the future.
