Do you enjoy learning new things? Maybe you do, but access to information is holding you back. Or, learning is not promoted within your company. A culture of learning is a strong indicator of whether a company is investing in its employees.
Something that is often discussed on the Acceleration Economy is “compete fast or concede faster.” Competing fast requires people to embrace a learning mindset. However, many people struggle with barriers to learning. This leads to the question: What does it mean to learn in the flow of work?
Appearing on the Back @ IT Podcast is a guest with a passion for learning and development, Asif Rehmani. He is the CEO of VisualSP and seeks to help people access contextual, everyday work knowledge in a unique way.
Highlights
02:03: Internal learning management systems are, unfortunately, an afterthought for many organizations. Additionally, if there is an LMS in place, most people aren’t sure where to go.
05:09: Microsoft Viva was introduced as an employee experience platform for companies. Viva is comprised of four components:
- Viva Connections: A curated, company-branded experience that brings together relevant news, conversations, and resources in the apps and devices you use every day
- Viva Insights: Helps people and business thrive with data-driven, privacy-protected insights and recommendations to improve productivity and wellbeing.
- Viva Topics: Automatically organizes content and expertise across your organization, making it easy for people to find information and put knowledge to work.
- Viva Learning: Help employees discover and share professional training resources across your organization, and track their learning progress.
11:38: Providing information to people within the context of the application or process equips them at the moment of need. If an employee doesn’t have to use different systems to find information, this reduces friction and adds efficiency.
16:43: It’s important to gauge the level of need you have for business solutions if you are looking to purchase Viva. The cost model may not work for SMBs, but it could be ideal for mid-sized to enterprise organizations.
21:42: The best approach in providing contextual learning is to have multiple options such as video, text, or images to assist. People learn differently and this allows them to feel comfortable in learning aligned with what they attempting to learn.
25:12: Asif shares his perspectives on a quote from Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. The importance of upskilling employees is critical and having a culture of “learning as a necessity.”
