Highlights
00:35 — Lookout today released its “Global State of Mobile Phishing” report based on data from over 210 million devices and 175 million applications. Kieron will be reviewing key findings and takeaways.
0:50 — The report indicates that in 2022, there was the highest percentage of mobile phishing encounter rates of all time — on average, over 30% of personal and enterprise users were exposed to phishing attacks every quarter. Over 50% of personal devices were exposed to a mobile phishing attack every quarter in 2022.
01:10 — The financial impact of phishing attacks can be quite serious. The potential annual financial impact to an organization of 5,000 plus employees is close to $4 million, the report states.
01:25 — Non-email-based phishing attacks are also on the rise. You may not have heard of these attack types, but Lookout reports a seven-fold increase in the second quarter of 2022 in other attack types, namely “vishing” or voice phishing, “smishing” or SMS phishing, and “quishing” or QR code phishing.
01:40 — Among several reasons why mobile phishing attacks have increased, the most significant is a shift from office space to remote and hybrid work models.
