Welcome to the AI Ecosystem Report, featuring practitioner analyst and entrepreneur Toni Witt. This series is intended to deliver the timely intelligence about artificial intelligence (AI) you need to get up to speed for an upcoming client engagement or board meeting.

Highlights

Innovation (00:48)

The French Tennis Federation teamed up with Infosys, a global consulting and digital services firm, to bring innovative AI solutions to the next Roland-Garros, one of the world’s biggest tennis tournaments. These two organizations have been working together over the past six years. Sports organizations, in general, have long been building digital tech into their operations, such as to enhance fan and athlete experiences.

They have implemented AI in several areas already, including AI-assisted journalism and data use cases. This year, they’re taking it a step further, particularly around fan engagement:

  • Fans are encouraged to create Roland-Garros posters using GenAI and submit them for other fans to vote for their favorite. The winner gets tickets to the game.
  • An AI-powered auto-predict feature enables users to predict match outcomes and performance in real-time.
  • AI has been deployed to provide deeper insights from side-by-side video analyses of each play. Fans and media outlets can use this tool to examine a player’s performance. Athletes can analyze their own performance to improve.

These implementations are leveraging Topaz, which is Infosys’ set of AI-based offerings. Infosys has over 150 pre-trained AI models on its platform as well as other app platforms from different tech companies.

The AI Ecosystem Q1 2024 Report compiles the innovations, funding, and products highlighted in AI Ecosystem Reports from the first quarter of 2024. Download now for perspectives on the companies, investments, innovations, and solutions shaping the future of AI.

Funding (04:16)

Amazon announced a fresh $230 million commitment for startups around the world to accelerate the creation of GenAI applications. $80 million of this commitment will fund the second cohort of the AWS Generative AI Accelerator, an accelerator program providing hands-on expertise and resources to early-stage startups using GenAI.

This value comes through AWS credits, which the startups can access for compute, storage, and database uses. Startups can also access AWS Tranium and AWS Inferentia2 chips, as well as Amazon Bedrock. Members of the accelerator program also get matched with mentors.

In addition to the accelerator program, part of this funding is also goinginto the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center and its project Olympus.

Solution of the Week (06:19)

Apple held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which hosted a number of major announcements. The biggest announcement was Apple Intelligence, a smaller model built specifically to power various Apple products and features in the future. The company has custom-trained models for Apple OS, prioritizing the user experience, user privacy, and data privacy. Apple Intelligence is only available on the newest iPhone and Mac devices.

The company announced that Siri, its voice assistant, is being revamped with OpenAI’s GPT-4. Apple confirmed that it’s working with other third-party models beyond OpenAI, such as Google’s Gemini. It’s also integrating ChatGPT into iOS tools, like writing tools, to allow users to create content with ChatGPT, including images, gaining ideas, and more. It will be interesting to see how Apple Intelligence evolves and how its AI strategy continues to unfold.
