Highlights
00:37 — Cockroach Labs has recently announced that CockroachDB Dedicated, the fully managed version of CockroachDB, is now Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) certified.
00:51 — The PCI-DSS certification was created by the PCI Security Standards Council. Ultimately, the mission was to establish a minimum security standard to protect customer payment information. Now, any company that’s dealing with credit card or payment information must comply.
01:19 — Many CockroachDB customers were already deploying a self-hosted version of the database within systems that handle confidential financial information. This was because CockroachDB is “incredibly powerful, very consistent, and resilient,” notes Kieron. So they were monitoring the data for regulatory compliance independently.
01:42 — However, this new certification enables CockroachDB Dedicated to handle the whole process, including storing confidential information.
01:55 — Kieron suggests that this shows the importance of following regulatory standards — not just for the sake of companies themselves, but for the customers. Customers, especially those dealing with financial information, need to be comply with regulatory standards including PCI-DSS.
02:10 — Supporting the frameworks that companies need to adhere to, thereby making business processes easier for their customers, is one reason why Cockroach Labs is a Data Modernization Top 10 company.
