This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Highlights

00:20 — A timely conversation pertains to the shifting relationship between the IT department and business analysts.

00:38 — The IT department traditionally manages all the data storage facilities, the administration of database systems, engineering architecture in the systems, infrastructure, and more.

00:54 — The last decade has seen the explosion of data, requiring companies to reconfigure how they store and analyze data. Previously, the traditional method was more focused on relational databases. Now, we are installing and analyzing unstructured data that requires big data platforms.

01:37 — Further, the IT department is focusing more on security now, due to the growing concerns about digitalization.

01:53 — Business analysts are being relocated, as they are owning a lot of the data analytics and having to enhance their skillsets to use new tools.

02:19 — Business leaders are requiring faster analysis. So, organizations have to combine the need for faster analysis with the need for new technology, new platforms, and growing cybersecurity threats.

02:45 — Hosting regular meetings between IT departments and business analysts can help improve the understanding of new duties.
