This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held from June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Highlights

00:09 — This week marked the release of the Verizon Data Breach Investigation Report (DBIR). This year’s report named three top trends sticking out as particularly threatening to cybersecurity.

00:35 — Statics show a 13% increase in ransomware in 2021. Approximately 70% of malware breaches this year are due to ransomware.

01:05 — Supply chain security growth marks another recent trend. The DBIR found 62% of data breaches this year attacked the supply chain in some manner. The complex ecosystem connecting partners, providers and software producers has left holes for malicious actors to take advantage of.

02:15 — Human error still leads to most security incidents. An estimated 82% of breaches in 2021 involved the human element in some shape or form.
