A recent survey from UiPath asked over 500 senior managers and C-level executives from a variety of organizations about employees developing automation and artificial intelligence (AI) skills. According to the study, 70% of senior executives prefer non-technical employees to have these skills in the workplace. The growing demand for automation and AI experience highlights the importance of using training programs to further educate employees on these in-demand skills.

Learning more about automation and AI tools is necessary for today’s work environment, as 73% of the executives said they would choose a candidate with more technical experience, even if the job does not require those abilities. Ultimately, taking the extra time to learn more about AI and automation in the workplace is a worthwhile investment that can play a significant role in helping a potential employee land a new job.

Automation is rapidly spreading worldwide due to its ability to increase business productivity and make each employee’s job tasks even easier. Forrester Consulting highlighted in a recent study that businesses are increasingly using automation to alleviate market pressure due to the pandemic. Supporting these findings, 70% of the executives in the initial survey have already invested in automation or AI technology, as 18% of these businesses are using it throughout their entire organization.

Automation and AI tools are increasingly becoming more prevalent in enterprise settings due to the many benefits of investing in this technology. This innovative technology is especially important in non-technical roles. The vast majority of executives prefer to hire employees who can easily transition into using this new technology without requiring a lot of training.

Here are a few more of the key points from the UiPath survey:

Increasingly Important for All Jobs

Automation and AI skills will continue to grow in importance for all employees. Most of the surveyed executives believe non-technical employees must understand automation and AI technology in the workplace. The role of technology is ever-expanding, as having a working knowledge of automation and AI is a valuable skillset for any employee. The survey also found that 94% of non-technical employees already use automation and AI technology in various work areas. Understanding how to use these expanding technologies is essential for workers, as 73% of the surveyed executives would hire someone with automation skills if they were choosing between two similar candidates.

Improve Job Prospects

Learning more about automation and AI technology will further boost the career posture of employees. According to the survey, 44% of the executives believe that these skills will increase workers’ responsibilities, and 64% believe that these additional skills will also improve the pay for employees. Sixty-seven percent of the surveyed executives believe that each employee will also have more career advancement opportunities within the organization due to obtaining automation and AI skills.

A Necessity for the Future

Understanding the role of automation and AI technology in the workplace will be a necessity for future jobs, according to 83% of the surveyed executives. The pandemic has only expedited this necessity, as 82% agree that working from home has further increased employees’ need to use automation and AI technology.

Investing in automation and AI education is essential for employees to develop the necessary skills to succeed in today’s changing work environment. Keeping up with these tech changes is critical in maintaining productivity and better meeting the needs of customers. Businesses that choose to invest in digital and technical training skills are much more likely to succeed compared to other organizations that fail to adapt to these emerging technologies.

As you can see from this study, the vast majority of surveyed executives believe that employees need to develop automation and AI skills to succeed in today’s work environment. Employees believe that businesses need to train them in these emerging technologies to maximize their success and become a more valuable asset. Investing in employee education for automation and AI technology is critical in helping businesses during this transition process, as technology continues to become even more prevalent in the workplace. These training initiatives allow organizations to leverage automation technology to maximize production and help boost the bottom line.

Focusing on the commitment of training and up-skilling employees is essential for workers of technical and non-technical expertise. Creating a positive workplace culture that educates employees will allow your business to reach its full potential with emerging AI and automation technology. These advanced training courses will provide valuable skills for employees while also allowing your organization to operate more efficiently. Learning more about technology is an excellent way to stay proactive and give you an edge over other companies that are slow to adopt new tech trends.
