This episode is brought to you by the Cloud Wars Expo. This in-person event will be held from June 28th to 30th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.

Highlights

01:51 — Chatbots designed to assist customers on branded websites have become so common that users may even be irritated if they aren’t there to aid with questions and searches.

02:23 — New types of chatbots are emerging. These include relationship chatbot REPLIKA (“the AI companion who cares”) and therapy bot Woebot Health, tailored to assist with mental health challenges.

02:46 — A particularly innovative bot has emerged to simulate conversations with deceased loved ones. Termed “deadbots,” this new generation of chatbots raises ethical questions concerning unauthorized data usage of the deceased.

03:26 — Other issues include considering the unintended consequences of deadbots acting contrary to the deceased’s personality or behavior, causing potential psychological harm to users.

04:14 — Who is governing ethical AI conditions as the advancements in technology approach a crossroads with humanity in general? Aaron stresses the importance of using technology as an augmentation or accompaniment to human interaction, not a replacement.

04:14 — Some creators using open source AI as a foundation for deadbots already have standards in place in regards to misusing their AI source code.
