In this Digital CIO Summit moment, excerpted from the digital event which took place from April 4-6, Rob Carter, Executive Vice President and CIO, FedEx, explains how cloud technologies have reduced risk.
Highlights
00:06 — Carter explains that without a doubt, “[we] kind of need to recalibrate our risk and mental models when it comes to modernization because we have this tendency to believe that, you know, standing still is not as risky as it actually is.”
00:21 — At the same time, there is a belief that “moving forward” is riskier than it actually is. Carter suggests that he would refute that sentiment strongly. In today’s world, “standing still” is one of the riskiest things that can be done. “It’s like standing on the beach, and not seeing the tsunami that’s about to sweep you away,” says Carter.
00:46 — Technologies have gotten better and easier to implement, which makes “moving forward” easier, too. With the modern cloud world and computing infrastructures available, “we’re not having to start from scratch anymore.”
